What is the Marching Band schedule?
Marching Band typically begins in June and runs through the end of football season (Late October / November). Practices begin with Color Guard Fundamentals Camp, Music Camps, Visual Camps, Percussion Camp, Color Guard Choreography Camp, 1 full week of Band Camp, and then daily early rehearsal during the school year. The band performs up to 5 weekend competitions, 5 or 6 home football games, and any home playoff games. See our 2026-2027 calendar at https://www.logrogband.com/schedule for detailed schedule information.

Where can I get the Marching Band music?
Any music received prior to the end of the school year will be printed and distributed prior to the Summer Break. Students can access the music on the LRHS Band group on the Band App. Because of copyright, we will not post the music to any public platforms. You or your student can also send an email to one of the directors to request the music. All movements are typically made available 5-6 weeks prior to Band Camp. Announcements will be sent as soon as music is available.

I heard Marching Band is tough...
Yes, marching band is physically and mentally challenging, but also a lot of fun! Marching band is a great way for freshmen and newcomers to make new friends, form relationships with upperclassmen, and become familiar with the school. It eases the transition from middle to high school. Students never forget the exhilaration of that first night performing to a cheering crowd under the lights!

What are the Music & Visual Camps?
The Music Camps are specifically designed to learn and clean all the music that is required of the HS Band throughout the marching season. Since we are typically on the move or in a space where we are unable to use sheet music, all music heard throughout the marching season must be memorized. This additional time allows students to receive specific instruction on each selection well ahead of any performances.

The Visual Camps are designed to teach, review, and unify all movements used throughout the marching season. It is essential for all members to perform all movements identically if we are to achieve maximum success. These camps allow staff to ensure proper technique and physical safety for each member.

What items are needed for Summer Camps?
It is highly recommended for students to wear light, comfortable clothing (no jeans), tennis shoes, hats, sunglasses, and SUNSCREEN. A water bottle is a MUST. Students will also need to bring their instruments and music to all camps.

What is Band Camp?
Band Camp is the one-week period where all marching band members learn as much of the show as possible for the fall performances. Students will clean and continue memorizing their 6-8 minutes of show music and approximately 10 pep songs for the stands, as well as the 60-70 drill sets or pictures for the show. The fall show WOULD NOT be possible without this valuable time with the students. In addition to the hard work of preparing for the fall season, the week is filled with dress-up days, games, daily award winners, and plenty of other fun activities. It is a fun time for the students as well as an important time for team building and forming lasting band friendships.

The week culminates in our Parent Preview, where students will showcase all the hard work from the Summer Camps. Admission to the preview is a donation of snacks, water, or sports drinks, which will go to assist our Meal Team in providing adequate food to the band at all competitions.

What are the Color Guard Camps?
Color Guard is the section that uses flags and other equipment to provide a visual representation of the music that the band is playing. Both Color Guard Camps are mandatory for all guard members. These are critical times when the Guard learns the routine for the marching season and all additional techniques required to fulfill their individual parts in the routine. It is imperative that the guard members know their routines before Band Camp.

What is the plan for meals during Summer Camps?

Unless otherwise specified, students need to provide their own lunch/dinner for all Summer Camps. Students may leave campus on those days to eat at home or go out to eat, provided they have transportation. If students are interested in riding with friends, a parent note must be provided.

Being late back from lunch/dinner is NOT an option!

Band Fees – what does this cover?
Band fees help to offset the cost of the marching season. In addition to receiving their season T-Shirt, it also helps to cover the cost of the custom drill writing, custom music, copyright licenses for the arrangement of popular music, marching techs, prop design and creation, and plenty more! This ensures that every student has a spot in the show, and the music is written to the strengths of our band. Please see the Marching Band Financial Form and the LRHS Band Handbook for more detailed information.

How do I pay the Band Fees?

There are a few ways to take care of Band Fees...

  1. Cash

  2. Check - Made Payable to LR Band Boosters or LRHS

  3. LR Online School Store

When do I get my uniform?
Marching Band uniform fittings occur during our Uniform Fitting Week in June. This process should only take a few minutes (depending on how many students are present at one time). Fitting band members in June allows our incredible parent Uniform Team enough time to make necessary alterations and refit students during other Summer camps. If you are not able to make it to our June fitting, please let us know. Marching Band uniforms are kept at the school, tagged with the student’s name, and stored in the uniform closet.

What are LR Band Boosters?
The LR Band Boosters is an extremely active and dedicated body that is involved in all aspects of supporting the band. We help support the band through fundraisers, chaperoning, pit crew (equipment transportation), uniforms, hospitality, feeding the band, taking pictures/videos, publicity, data entry, webmaster, and many more. The Boosters exist to support the band program at Logan-Rogersville High School. The LR Band Boosters are a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, and all parents/guardians of band students are automatically members.

How can parents get involved with the band?
There are tons of options for adult volunteers, including prop building, trailer driving, equipment moving, Talent Show assisting, concessions, computer work, sewing, uniform fittings, food and drink donation, and pit crew for the football games and competitions, just to name a few. You can indicate your interest on the Information Form, and we can have one of our amazing volunteers reach out! There is a place for you here – let us know your availability, and we will plug you in!
